What You Can Type With VW Text Bold

You get every letter from A to Z in both cases and all the numbers from 0 to 9, which means VW Text Bold can handle full sentences, dates and prices. Everyday marks like &, !, ? and @ are there too. Thanks to its accented letters, it also works for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian, not just English. On top of that, it includes Greek and Cyrillic characters. Of its 730 glyphs, about 97 are not on your keyboard at all. That is where the alternates explained below live.

How to Use the Alternate Letters in VW Text Bold

VW Text Bold has stylistic alternates and a stylistic set built in as OpenType features. In Illustrator and InDesign, open the Glyphs panel (Window > Type) and select a letter to see its alternates. In Photoshop, use Window > Glyphs. Figma shows them under the text settings as OpenType features. Microsoft Word can switch on stylistic sets in the Font dialog under Advanced. Canva and Cricut Design Space can't reach OpenType alternates, so for those, set the word in a desktop app first and import it as an SVG. Another 14 alternates are stored as separate characters, so you can copy them from Character Map on Windows or Font Book on a Mac and paste them anywhere, including Cricut Design Space and Canva. Contextual alternates switch on by themselves: letters change shape to fit their neighbours, so repeated letters don't look copy-pasted. This works automatically in most design apps.

Where VW Text Bold Works Best

Think of VW Text Bold for websites, app screens and clean logos. It works for headings and body text alike. If the download has several weights, use a heavier one for titles and a lighter one for paragraphs. Because the family has more than one style, you can mix them in a single design for headings, subheadings and highlights.
