What You Can Type With Papillion
Papillion covers the full alphabet in upper and lowercase, plus all ten numbers, so you can set names, dates and prices without switching fonts. Common punctuation such as &, !, ? and @ is included as well. It also has the accented letters you need for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.
How to Use the Alternate Letters in Papillion
Papillion has 9 stylistic sets and optional ligatures built in as OpenType features. In Illustrator and InDesign, open the Glyphs panel (Window > Type) and select a letter to see its alternates. In Photoshop, use Window > Glyphs. Figma shows them under the text settings as OpenType features. Microsoft Word can switch on stylistic sets in the Font dialog under Advanced. Canva and Cricut Design Space can't reach OpenType alternates, so for those, set the word in a desktop app first and import it as an SVG. Another 108 alternates are stored as separate characters, so you can copy them from Character Map on Windows or Font Book on a Mac and paste them anywhere, including Cricut Design Space and Canva. Its ligatures switch on by themselves in most design apps: certain letter pairs join into one specially drawn shape.
Where Papillion Works Best
Papillion is a natural fit for wedding invitations, certificates and elegant quotes. Its lowercase letters are small compared to the capitals, so set it a size or two bigger than usual. Script fonts read best in short bursts, so keep it to names, titles and one-line quotes. Skip all caps: script capitals are drawn to start a word, not to fill one.
