What You Can Type With Mardian

Mardian covers the full alphabet in upper and lowercase, plus all ten numbers, so you can set names, dates and prices without switching fonts. Everyday marks like &, !, ? and @ are there too. Thanks to its accented letters, it also works for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian, not just English. Of its 450 glyphs, about 88 are not on your keyboard at all. That is where the alternates explained below live.

How to Use the Alternate Letters in Mardian

Mardian has swashes, stylistic alternates and optional ligatures built in as OpenType features. In Illustrator and InDesign, open the Glyphs panel (Window > Type) and select a letter to see its alternates. In Photoshop, use Window > Glyphs. Figma shows them under the text settings as OpenType features. Canva and Cricut Design Space can't reach OpenType alternates, so for those, set the word in a desktop app first and import it as an SVG. Its ligatures switch on by themselves in most design apps: certain letter pairs join into one specially drawn shape.

Where Mardian Works Best

Mardian is a natural fit for wedding invitations, certificates and elegant quotes. Its lowercase letters are small compared to the capitals, so set it a size or two bigger than usual. The file has no kerning data, so in logos and big titles check pairs like AV, To and Wa and tighten the spacing by hand. Script fonts read best in short bursts, so keep it to names, titles and one-line quotes. Skip all caps: script capitals are drawn to start a word, not to fill one.
