What You Can Type With Birdy

Birdy has the full alphabet in upper and lowercase. There are no numbers, so you'll need a second font for dates, prices or phone numbers. Common punctuation such as &, !, ? and @ is included as well. It also has the accented letters you need for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.

How to Use the Alternate Letters in Birdy

Birdy has optional ligatures built in as OpenType features. In Illustrator and InDesign, open the Glyphs panel (Window > Type) and select a letter to see its alternates. In Photoshop, use Window > Glyphs. Figma shows them under the text settings as OpenType features. Canva and Cricut Design Space can't reach OpenType alternates, so for those, set the word in a desktop app first and import it as an SVG. Its ligatures switch on by themselves in most design apps: certain letter pairs join into one specially drawn shape.

Where Birdy Works Best

Birdy is a natural fit for book covers, magazine headlines and classic branding. Serif fonts shine in headlines and printed text. For long paragraphs on phones, check that it still reads well at small sizes.
