Adrian Frutiger designed Herculanum Regular for the Linotype foundry in 1990, drawing inspiration from first-century Roman cursive scratched into stone and walls. As an official commercial display typeface, it features elongated vertical structures, high crossbars, and irregular stroke weights that mirror ancient script layouts. These distinct attributes led producers to select the font for Avatar: The Last Airbender, using it across the “The Last Airbender” subtitle, episode chapter titles, and end credits.
