Joel Kaden and Tony Stan designed American Typewriter (often cataloged as ITC American Typewriter) in 1974 for the International Typeface Corporation (ITC). They created this classic slab serif typeface to mark the 100th anniversary of the typewriter, reimagining the nostalgic, rigid mechanics of old writing machines into a warm, friendly text face.
